Three vegetarians - Linda McCartney, Hitler and Gandhi.
So, which of these was certainly a 'orrible little thug in their youth?
The anwser: Gandhi.
OK, so Hitler might not have been a cherub either, but I was struggling for another vegetarian.

Where was I... oh, yes. The awfulness of Gandhi. He went though a phase of adolescent rebellion: among his teenage vices were atheism, theft, smoking and meat eating! (Source)
The little thug! I can imagine the other parents, "I don't want you hanging around that Mohandas. He's a bad egg!" (I've never understood that phrase either, bad egg - bad apple I get. Bad egg, no.)
It does give lie to the phrase 'once a bully, always a bully' - it kinda proves that personalities can change.
