Summing Up Is Hard To Do...

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

While I realise following a heart-felt post like Peter Perkins with what is quite possibly the silliest thing I've written isn't great for continuity, it does kinda sum up how I work.

I have been asked to write about what makes me tick so many times and to be honest it's an extremely difficult thing to do. The best way to tell what a person is like to read what they have to say. If you have no idea what a site is about, and the author can't tell you, then the best way is to spend some time there and find out!

I admit that I've not put anything here for a while, but it's getting a little more frequent. I've finished doing boringly important things now so should have a little more free time.

Expect silliness, linkage, cheese, curious moose and little slices of wisdom. Or just visit every now and then and see what I have to say. It won't all make sense but ride the wave and eventually something will come along that grabs you. And you'll be hooked. Or get bored and wander off...

Er... that's it I guess.

Sorry - this makes no sense to anyone except JSC...

Evenin' all.

I trust you are all in fine fettle.

My teaching practice is entering the final straight now, with just this last week of full time teaching to go. It's also been cut short by my having an operation on March 3rd. All will be well, but I may have an odd appearance for a little while... more on that later.

Anyway, just wanted to write a small update and more detailed things will appear soon when my life gains loads more free time!

Take care.

Meanwhile, back in school...

What a great day!

Had 3 amazing lessons out of 4 - the other one was a smidge iffy. But I'm really pleased with the way the day went.

I've only 8 more days of full time teaching now, so that means 28 lessons to teach - I have 2 lessons off as preparation time a week. Then I've got a week in Key Stage 1, probably in Reception or Year 1. Not really looking forward to that if I'm honest, but we'll see how it goes.

Other than that, I've nothing to report - had a romantic weekend for Valentine's Day but that's personal!

Peter Perkins

I know a lot of you know about this site's history and the things about it that I'm not particularly proud of. Well, one of the people who's work previously appeared on this site was Peter Perkins, who sadly died in March 2004. Peter's work is something that I'd recommend you all go and read.

I'm not in the best position to comment on what his best work was. The items of his I published I enjoy tremendously and while I have explored his site further, I don't feel that I should give you my opinion on this.

Peter wrote about a lot of topics, not all of them from a comic point of view. However, most will raise a smile and give an insight into the man that he was.

And let's face it, isn't that the point? Isn't the reason why we write things a way to express the thoughts and feelings we have inside? Peter offers glimpses into his suffering in his work but doesn't make a huge deal from it.

It is quite clear to me that he deserves recognition for his pieces. Please visit his site.

I couldn't fit this down the side... hang on, de ja vu...

...so I'm putting it here.

Sign telling you stuff...

Well, so far no feedback on the new look. Maybe that has something to do with not actually telling many people it's here again. I haven't thought this through have I?

Clearly not. It occurred to me earlier tonight that HSX may have to not be anymore. The site can stay, but not him. I haven't decided anything, it's just something I want to play around with, but this is now the third attempt to carry on writing (The second was the aborted attempt you see if you browse back through this place. The first, well, that, quite rightly, doesn't exist anywhere.)

The way of the future...

I'm telling you now, in the future everyone will be singing to everyone else. The world will be a massive, unbearable musical.

The signs are already here. For years "Jesus Christ, Superstar" has taken a story we all know and sang it to us. Then Ben Elton's career stalled and he turned his hand to lyrics, creating "We Will Rock You" based on the music of Queen. There's an ABBA musical, "The Beautiful Game" football musical, even a Rod Stewart musical... will the madness ever end?

Recently, this form of musical stupidity has been taken to new highs. Witness the furore over the Jerry Springer thing. However, there's something even more over the top than that. Brace yourselves.

"Blunkett: the Musical"

"I don't think there can be anything greater," said Martin Witts, the producer who will be writing it with journalist Ginny Dougray and music by an American composer known only as MJ.

From MSN.co.uk: "For those who don't remember -- or weren't paying attention -- Blunkett was Home Secretary and one of the country's most popular politicians until last year, when newspapers revealed he was having an affair with a wealthy, married American woman.

"The socialist and the socialite -- what a headline writer's day," goes the lyric to the show.

Blunkett soon became embroiled in a paternity fight for the child of his lover, Kimberly Quinn, publisher of the conservative political journal the Spectator. He was finally undone when an investigation concluded he had used his position as interior minister to speed up the residence visa of Quinn's Filipina nanny.

Meanwhile, the Spectator's floppy-haired editor, Boris Johnson, was sacked from his own post as culture spokesman for the opposition Conservative party for having an affair with one of his columnists.

That gives the authors an opportunity to send up both main political parties at once.

"Everyone gets their turn," said Witts."

It's most definitely the way of the future.

Where have I been?

Blimy... that time has flown by.

I'm really sorry about my absence! I wish I could explain what I've been up to but I really don't know.

Anyway, I'm back now. And I've spent a great deal of time revamping the place (yet again...) I know I've said it before, but it really is a LOT easier for me to write for this site now. I can access it from any computer in the world (provided the site isn't experiencing technical difficulties) so hopefully that'll allow me to give you more frequent randomness!

Still, bear with me as the design is finalised for here - I still need to find a way to integrate all the old features from the other site to here. I'm not hugely sure it's gonna be possible. I'll do my best though!

If you have any comments you'd like to make, you'll need to register with the site. This stops unapproved comments from slipping through the net (which will just be spam comments - I'm not going to censor anyone, their opinions are fine with me). I think you'll only need to register once, and never having had to do it I've no idea what it entails. If it needs changing, please let me know what I can do.
